International Kids Tennis
International Kids’ Tennis is an informal network linking groups conducting tennis-related activities for kids in various countries. It has no formal organization or funding but simply provides an opportunity for the various programs to share experiences and to inspire others interested in doing something similar.
Kids’ Tennis is a grass roots program for children, aimed at giving them ALL an opportunity to participate in a sporting activity that:
- Both boys and girls of all ages can play
- Gives kids a sense of self-esteem and a sense of belonging
- Is a non-contact/non violent sport
- Develops basic ball skills and aids in the development of right/left brain, concentration etc.
- Has a universal code of conduct that can help teach children to respect each other on and off the court
- Can be played as an individual or team sport
- Acts as a pathway for other activities – education, health related, conflict resolution
- Brings schools, clubs and community together.
This approach means that kids can start learning the basics that are important to tennis and build their skills and fitness without being dependent on fully functioning tennis courts and it allows kids to play and train on any flat surface (indoors or out), whether it be in a school, village or town.
